Oh well, so much for intentions of daily entries...
For now, we'll just go as I have the time, inclination and actually remember this is here.
So far, so good. Four presents ordered for Grant's birthday, four presents arrived. A party on Sunday for him and his uncle. Matthew's room is looking better and better, many of the "hardware" items are really coming together for us now. The yard is manageable, figured out a way to create a greenhouse so we can put the rather leggy tomato and squash starts outside...
We'll use the kennel as a frame, wrap it in thick plastic, and I'll add remay row covers as extra insulation for the first few days. We are not yet in frost-free territory, but it hasn't gone below freezing consistently in a couple weeks, so I think it's a good time to try this.
Other items in the yard: three dead trees were successfully taken down today. Local couple did it, actually, HE did it, she and I stood around talking about how nerve-wracking it is to watch someone we love do dangerous things. The tall hemlock tree (I think it was close to 120 feet tall) was the scariest one, although the shorter (40 feet) ones near the propane tank were the more urgent concern for me.
Schoolwork is going well for the kids. Both are less apt to complain about doing the schoolwork now that we have talked about schedules and they had some input. Even having to write things down is less and less of a problem for Grant. Matthew will write on cue, but we need to work on grammar now.
I tire already of the fighting and stupid debates in United States politics. I want to hear answers and solutions and ideas that will benefit real people -- not just the top 10% of the income brackets. I want to hear concrete plans to encourage democracy in all nations, not just the ones that cost us money, but even in the ones where the dictators give us discounts...
And I want to hear that Constitutional guarantees apply to all people who reside in the United States -- not just those who are heterosexual enough or rich enough or famous enough or white enough. I want to know that rights are not exclusive to the normal people as currently defined, but inclusive of all, regardless of the popularity of their features, clothes, family structure or native languages.
And... that's enough for today. May you live with integrity and hold peace in your heart.
